Exchange Server and Vista
When I bought my Vista-equiped laptop half a year ago, I noticed when I logged in to my Exchange Server 2003 using Outlook Web Access, I couldn’t type any messages. I didn’t give it much attention at that time, because I normally work in-house and use the “normal” Outlook which has no problems. But last week I made an account for a friend who only logs in via a webbrowser. And you guess it already: he couldn’t type any messages either. Time for some research.
Of course there is a very simple workaround for this problem, and that is to choose for Basic sign in instead of Premium. But that’s no fun, you’re missing a lot of gimmick. I wanted to be able to use the Premium sign in.
I found out that there are some changes made to the ActiveX controls in Vista’s Internet Explorer and that causes the problem. Fortunately Microsoft has made a patch available and after installing it, everything works smooth again.
Note: the patch under the link in the article above is for Exchange Server 2003 only. In the Knowledge Base article is also some information about how to obtain a fix for Exchange Server 2000. Nothing about Exchange Server 2007 is being mentioned, so I assume the problem is fixed in the initial release of it.
