Windows Server 2008 RC0
In november 2007 the Release Candidate 0 of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 came available and of course I wanted to test it. The task I had in mind for this Server OS was to test it with the Linux and/or UNIX clients to authenticate with it. But first of all this Operating System had to be installed. On Microsoft Virtual PC.
So after the 1.9GB download of the DVD ISO, I created a new Virtual Machine in Virtual PC, captured the image as the CD-drive and started the installation. After a long time waiting (although this version installs quite fast for a server OS), the machine rebooted and I could log on to complete the last part of the setup. Curious as I was, I let it check for updates. But it didn’t work. Okay, this is a Release Candidate, so maybe the Windows Update for 2008 is not in place yet. But after I tried to browse the network, the network didn’t work at all! I checked the configuration of the network, but everything seemed to be fine. After a few reboots (you never know), it still didn’t work. Then I tried changing the network adapter in Virtual PC from Realtek to Intel and it worked straightaway! So no real problems with Server 2008.
