Virtualization
Since a while I’m obsessed with virtualisation. It’s a great way to use a computer for multiple tasks running on different operating systems all at the same time. I always used to have a lot of computers around in my room, every box running another operating system. This not only consumed a lot of space, but also a lot of power and therefore generated a lot of heat. That wasn’t very bad in winter, but it surely was in summer! But also every box had to have its own monitor and keyboard (later I used a KVM-switch), harddisk and so forth… Now it’s all in one box, sharing everything with eachother. But virtualization also makes for more efficient utilization, and therefore is better for the environment (and that’s what it’s all about these days!), since less computers are running idle half the time.
In the upcoming time I plan to write here about my experiences with installing and running virtual machines.
